Three Australian Women Arrested After Return Flights From Syria, Police Say
On the third day of May 7, 2026, three Australian women were arrested following their arrival in Melbourne and Sydney from Syria. These ladies had stayed in the refugee camp in Syria for several years since the breakup of the Islamic State. There were four women in the group along with nine children who did not seek any help from the government before arriving at the airport. The first lady was Kawsar Abbas and she is 53 years old and arrested in Melbourne and faces four counts of crimes against humanity, involving enslavement and slave trade, whereas the other lady arrested was Zeinab Ahmed (31). The second lady faces charges of slavery-related offenses and is eligible to go to jail for a maximum of 25 years. In Sydney, there was another arrest of Janai Safar (32), who is accused of entering a declared conflict zone and joining a terrorist organization.
